MOUTOA NOTES.
MOUTOA RIFLE CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent). The most progressive step in the Moutoa district lately, has been the formation of a rifle club. A meeting was called on the 13th June, and a most gratifying number of supporters turned up despite the weather. It was unanimously decided to form a Rille Club. The election of officers was as follows:—
Patron: Mr. W. E. Barber; president: Mr. IV. H. Smith; vicepresidents: Messrs W. Bowe, \V. Jewell, 6. O. Barber, Pigolt, Brier, Ross and Tamplin (all subject to consent); club captain: Mr. Garth Trogill; joint secretary's: Messrs S. \Y. Barber and Saxby; committee: Messrs L. Morgan, J. Newth, A. L. Milner, J. Barber, J. McKenzie and F. Evans.
The season’s subscription was lixed at 10/-. The secretaries were instructed to communicate with the Power Board and arrange for special lighting to be installed.
The first actual firing night, will, it all goes well, be held on Tuesday, 20th .June, at 7.30 o’clock. The club gives great promise of developing into a really live institution, and it is to be hoped that more members will join up and make the club a great success. EUCHRE TOURNAMENTS.
The Moutoa School Committee has commenced a scries of euchre tournaments in aid of the school funds. The first tournament was held last Thursday night, when a most enjoyable evening was spent. The play resulted: — Ladies: —Ist, Miss L. Annesley; 2nd, Mrs. Devonshire, (after tieing with Mrs. Davey). Gents: —Ist, A. Devonshire; 2nd, A : . Davey. Excellent trophies were provided. After the tournament, supper was served by the ladies.
The next tournament will be held on Thursday, 28th June, and it is to be hoped that a large number will fake part in it as the school will benefit very materially by their patronage. What promises to lie the big social event of the season at Moutoa is the Hall Committee’s fifth annual ball to be held on Friday, August 3rd. The joint secretaries are Messrs S. Barber, Saxby and McKenzie, and a strong committee will co-operate with them. Larkin’s orchestra has been engaged and novelties will be intorduced to make this function even more enjoyable —if that were possible —than its predecessors'.
