THE TRUMP CARD

HON. R. A. WRIGHT PLAYS A HAND.

Speaking at the Reform rally at Wellington on Thursday, the Hon. R.. A. Wright, Minister for Education, said there were many capable men in New Zealand who would not stand for Parliament because of the criticism levelled at thoso who contested Parliamentary honours. One newspaper had stated that the Prime Minister “had only shuffled the old pack and introduced the joker when he called the speaker to Cabinet.” (Laughter). “I don’t know what the duties of a joker are,” added Mr. Wright, “but I understand that the joker is the chief card in tin l pack, and takes every trick. If that is so, lam going to trump every trick of the Opposition at the next election.” (Laughter and applause). In conclusion Mr. Wright expressed the wish that the electors would do their best for the Reform candidates in their respective districts. • They could use their influence, and assist those who did not know for whom to vote. He was satisfied that if the Reform ' supporters generally did that they would return Mr. Coates again at the head of his Government as strongly as ever. (Loud applause).
