MANAWATU LICENSING COMMITTEE .

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Mnnawatu Licensing Committee was held in the Foxton Courthouse on Friday, presided over by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M. Also present were Messrs J. K. Hornblow, R. Bryant, J. H. Perrett, J. Curran and J. Walker. TRANSFERS. A transfer of the Endymion Hotel, Awahuri, was granted from W. Speechlay to ]\lrs. E. M. Mcßrearty. NEW LICENSES. New licenses were granted the following:— Mrs. E. M. Mcßrearty, Endymion Hotel, Awahuri, and W. McClellan, Grand Hotel, Levin. RENEWALS. The. police report being favourable renewals were granted the following:—

J. McKenna, Manawatu Hotel, Foxton; W. Kirkland, Whyte’s Hotel, Foxton; 0. Pritchard, Post Office Hotel, Foxton; It. McMullian, Family Hotel, Foxton; T. P. Moynihan, Manawatu Club Hotel, Shannon; J. Curran, Albion Hotel, Shannon; D. King, Junction Hotel, Sanson; C. C. Price, Criterion Hotel, Bulls; J. F. Flynn, Rangitikei Hotel, Bulls. W. Bull, of Levin, was granted a renewal of his wholesale wine and spirit merchant’s licensoi. In regard to the application for a renewal of the license of the Levin Hotel, Levin, the Health Officer (Mr. J. Huggins), reported that certain alterations would be necessary before this building would be again passed next year. The chairman said that the committee considered the urinal in connection with this hotel in a disgraceful condition. A new one would have to be erected forthwith.

Mr. Hannan, on behalf of the owner of the property, said that the position was rather difficult. Levin had no sewerage system and the hotel’s present septic tank would not take any more drainage. If a new urinal was insisted upon a new septic tank would be necessary.

The police report in connection with the hotel was quite good and the committee decided to hold the renewal over until the next quarterly meeting, the licensee to carry on under the old license until then.

In regard to the Junction Hotel, Sanson, the chairman intimated that it had come before the notice of the committee that after hour trading had been going on and the licensee (Mr. King) was warned in this respect.
