“SOUTHERN CROSS” ARRIVES AT BRISBANE.

PERFECT LANDING EFFECTED,

The “Southern Cross” arrived at Brisbane at 10.14 o’clock this morning and effected a perfect land-

ing. The aviators were accorded a wonderful reception. The Southern Cross hopped off from Naselai Sands at 2.52 yesterday and passed over Suva at 1.4, Suva time, flying west. After setting out, the fliers’ first: Message was one of thanks to the tropic of Suva for their hospitaltv.

In a message to the Sydney Sun nontenant Ulm radioed:—

11 p.m. Suva time: Southern

Cross south of New Caledonia. 838 miles to Brisbane. Expect to arrive at 8 a.m. 11.10: Position now latitude 22.5 G south, longitude IG7 east. 12.3. Sent out call, QST de KHAB several times. No message however accompanied. Messrs A. Walls, S. Austin and \Y. Neville, local residents, picked up messages throughout the night and were able to listen-in right up to the time of arrival this morning. The announcer at Brisbane, transmitted to Sydney and described the scene at Brisbane. The roads were jammed with motor cars and thousands had assembled from all parts and were waiting from an early hour this morning.

A message from San Francisco states that Girard APGraven, who was chief mechanician for the Southern Cross while at Oakland Airport, said that Kingsford Smith discussed with him his ambition to ily around the world, provided the Australian venture proved successful, continuing the flight from Brisbane. FLIGHT TO NEW ZEALAND? The Christchurch Sun newspaper states that after Captain Kingston! Smith has reached Australia he will Ily his big machine across the Tasman to New Zealand, landing at Wigram Aerodrome, Christchurch.
