GENERAL ELECTION

OPPONENT FOR PRIME MINISTER. Dargaville, June 5. Mr. James G. Barclay, farmer, of Pukehuia, has been officially selected to stand in the Labour interests against Mr. Coates for the Kaipara electorate. Mr. Barclay is "a director of the Northern Wairoa Co-operative Dairy Company, a member of the Hobson Electric Power Board, and president of the Kaipara branch of the Labour Party. He has always taken a keen interest in political affairs, and in the memorable election at Otaki in 1911, when Mr. John Robertson, one of the first Labour representatives, narrowly beat Mr. W. H. Field, the present member, he took a prominent part on Mr. Robertson’s committee. He is a returned soldier and during the war period in England took part in the Labour Party’s campaign against Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, exNew Zealand Cabinet Minister.
