FOXTON D.H. SCHOOL.
ADDRESS ON “CHARACTER BUILDING.”
The headmaster of the Foxton D. D. School (Mr. F. A.. Mason), in conjunction with the teachers of the secondary department, has decided upon a scheme whereby secondary pupils, parents, committee and staff can be brought into closer touch and co-operate in the social and intellectual side of the school. The scheme includes social functions, lectures and debates. During last school term a successful social was held and last night Mr. Hornblow was invited to deliver an address on “character building.” there was a good attendance of scholars, teachers, parents and staff.
Mr. Mason occupied the chair and outlined the proposed scheme. Mr. Hornblow prefaced his remarks with references to the fundamentals of material buildings and physical development. In the building of character, he said, there were many factors to consider in the life of the child and he dealt wiith/hbredity, environment, ■exanijple, home and school influence, with appropriate illustrations. He pointed out that in a large measure the children were the architects of their own future and he urged them to be loyal, truthful, unselfish and to remember that a good name was better than riches. Mr. Mason dealt interestingly with the period of adolescence. Messrs M. E. Perrcau and the Rev. W. H. Nicholas in according a vote of thanks to the speakers, made reference to the educational value of such talks to the scholars. The next evening will be of a soeial character.
