A meeting of the Committee of the Foxton Football Club was held in Walls’ rooms last evening, presided oper by Mr. H. Hutchins (President). Also present were Messrs J. K. Hornblow, R. Cochrane, C. Procter, T. Tuna, C. Rand, W. Currie, A Walls and the secretary (Mn. R. Hornblow). Motions of sympathy were accorded Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Barron and Mr. and Mrs. T. Dalzell in their recent sad bereavements,, members standing in silence for a few moments.
The President reported that the Club had been represented at the funeral of the late Martin Dalzell, the Shannon Junior player who was killed in an accident on Monday, by members of the Committee and the Junior team, and that a wreath had been placed on the graveside on behalf of the Club. Correspondence was read from the Horowhenua Rugby Council acknowledging receipt of £8 13s Od gate money and granting the Club permission for the Thirds to play Selwyn Club at Foxton on June 4th, with the proviso that no players are covered by the Horowhenua Council’s insurance scheme. The Council also intimated that player’s passes could not be granted H. Taylor as he was not insured at the time of his accident.
The President said that he had asked that the Council’s insurance scheme should stand on the occasion of the Selvvyn match but the Council had refused his request. Players would have to play at their own risk. In regard to Taylor’s passes, he did not think that the fact that Taylor was uninsured with the Council at the time of the accident should debar him from receiving player’s passes. , The letter was received.
Mr. iC. Rand, gate inspector, reported that last Saturday’s gate totalled £5 7s Od. The amount'taken on the previous Saturday was £3 (is Od. This money had been handed over to the secretary, who had forwarded it to the Union. The question of providing a gate keeper for the Selwyn match was left in the hands of Mr. Rand, and the appointment of a referee to Mr. Hutchins.
