ENTERTAINMENTS.

TOWN HALL. “ PAID TO LOVE. George O’Brien has had many lights in his screen career, but it is doubtful whether he has ever had a more realistic encounter than that in which he figures with William PoAvell in “Paid to Love,” at the ToAvn Hall on Friday. In this production Powell, east as the heavy, is called on to make certain uncomplimentary remarks about a girl friend of O’Brien, Avho is cast as Crown Prince Michael. This conversation, Avhich takes place in a mess-hall, is overheard by O’Brien. When the two Princes fight there is a grand scramble on the part of 25 officers assembled in the mess. In the terrific encounter Avhich follows, O’Brien and Powell completely wreck the quarters, smash innumerable bottles and glasses, and finish 011 the floor under a table. At usual prices. “Cheating Cheaters,” a crook mystery drama Avill screen on Saturday.

ROYAL. A thriller from the word “Go!” Such is “Brigadier Gerard” at the Royal next Saturday. Taken from Conan Doyle’s well-known book of the Brigadier’s Adventures, Rod La Roeque fills the bill of the title role to perfection as a gallant booster, his self-assertion and arrogance being so chequered with daring, chivalry and laughter, that the combination wins all hearts to him. As Countess de Launay, in the Secret Service of Napoleon, Phyllis Haver acts opposite to Rod completely to our satisfaction, with wit, verve, and charm. As in the book, one thrilling incident succeeds another in the picture, keeping the spectator in breathless suspense until the eminently satisfactory end. All the detail has been done with care, and there isn’t a misfit in the east. Prices 1/- and 1/6. Children half price. Colleen Moore will he seen next Wednesday in Thomas Burke’s Limehouse story “Twinkletoes.”
