PALMERSTON DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
BOROUGH COUNCIL ASKS FOR COMMISSION. At hist night’s meeting of the Palmerston North Borough Council, by six votes to three the Council decided to request the Government to appoint an independent commission to investigate the whole position in regard to the proposed expenditure by the Palmerston Hospital Board. This resolution was the outcome of a notice of motion from Councillor M. A. Eliott.
The principal objection is to an expenditure of £IB,OOO to provide increased accommodation, which the honorary medical staff, some of whom are interested in private hospitals, object to. Not one specific charge of maladministration was given and Cr. Eliott said that the Minister would be ashed to fix the scope of the Commission. The Council decided to wait upon the Minister in connection with the matter when lie- visited Palmerston next week.
