EOXTON (32) v. WERAROA (7). Tlie above senior match was played on the racecourse on Saturday before a large number of spectators. The ground was in good order and a noticeable improvement was the erection ol: fences, which effectually kept spectators off the playing area. Tho field was also (lagged. . Both teams had not, so far, won a match this season. Eoxton fielded a much improved team and prior to the game elected Mr. C. Procter captain. The teams were as follows: — Eoxton. —Pull-back, H. Taylor; three-quarters, C. Procter, 0. Westwood and E. Robinson; liveeighths, T. Fuller and M. Moses; half, Hirini; forwards, J. Huff, S. Anderson, Waikato, H. McGregor, C. Renata, Pine, B. Cummerfield, and L. Andrews. Weraroa. —Broughton (3), Warren, Graham, Gray, Hellamore, Palmer, Kilsby, Holland, Horn, Edlin, Brien and a substitute. Weraroa set the ball in motion and despite that they were playing short-handed, attacked in the opening stages. Huff failed to stop a dangerous onslaught, but Taylor cleared. Warren returned with a strong run, but , could not penetrate the yellow defence and Moses, Fuller and Westwood got going but a forward pass to Robinson pulled the yellows up. Warren was again prominent and transferred play to Eoxton’s line and Hellamore got over in the corner, but Foxton’s hands embraced him and the oval. From the scrum Taylor relieved but from the return Graham sent the ball over the bar —Weraroa 4 —Eoxton nil. Play hovered to the centre where Weraroa was penalised, and Taylor, with a magnificent kick sent the ball over — Wjeraroa 4—Foxton 3. The Foxion backs, led by Moses, carried play to Weraroa territory and Broughton and Co. were kept busy with well-judged line kicks. Foxton was not to be denied and Renata dived over well out. Taylor made no mistake in adding the major points —Foxton S —Weraroa 4. Weraroa again attacked to be sent back by Taylor. Weraroa were beating Foxton forwards in the scrum, and their backs got moving and failure to gather up a pass saved an awkward onslaught for Foxton. Westwood broke up the attack and Broughton had a pot at goal. Andrews was prominent in a rush and Moses sent the hall out among the Foxton backs, but Broughton stemmed the attack. Moses, Fuller and Westwood returned to iho attack, and the latter crossed under the posts. An easy kick was missed by Taylor. Foxton 11 — Weraroa 4. Foxton continued to attack, and Pine, from the rush scored. Moses converted. Foxton 10 —Weraroa 4. Procter transferred to Westwood who from half way beat the opposition and crossed. The major points were not added. Half-time came with the scores Foxton 19 —Weraroa 4.

From the opening of the second half it was seen that Weraroa was up against it. Westwood, Fuller, Moses and Procter carried play to Weraroa territory but Broughton saved the issue. From a line out Huff gathered the oval and streaked down the line and beat the opposition by a strong run. Taylor converted. Foxton 24—Weraroa 4. After some ragged play, Procter put in a line run, hut was grassed by Broughton. Weraroa were now busy on the defence. Huff got nway again. A forward pass by Moses gave Weraroa relief. Taylor shortly after had an unsuccessful shot at goal. Moses, Procter, ami Fuller continued to attack and Westwood broke through with a strong run and crossed between the posts. Taylor failed "ith the kick. Foxton 27 —Weraroa 4. Weraroa led by Warren and Co., put Foxton on the defence and battled hard to penetrate. A free kick gave them an opportunity and Warren made no mistake Foxton 27 —Weraroa 7. Weraroa again battled to get over but Foxtons defence held good. JS- free kick to Foxton saw Taylor streak up the line and gathering the ball up got over. Moses converted T oxton 32 —Weraroa 7. Mr. Bevan controlled the game.

The secretary has received a letter from Selwyn Club, Wellington, asking if it would be possible to arrange a match between Selwyn Fourths and the local Thirds, to be played at Foxton on June 4th. All Third grade players are requested to attend at the practice shed at 7 o’clock this evening to discuss the above matter.

A practice will be held in the practice shed this evening at 7 o - dock‘'for Senior and Junior players. Full muster requested.

Huntley Ross is now back m Foxton, anl on Saturday was el-

ected “skipper” of the Juniors. Owing to an injury to his knee while playing for the Juniors against Miranui on Saturday, A. Walls had to retire and was replaced by Stevenson, who was a spectator owing to an injury sustained to his leg while in camp at Wanganui.

Now that Ross and Stevenson are hack in the Juniors, the team should “get down to it” and put on a few points in the Junior competition.

On Saturday the local Thirds will play Wanderers on the Levin Domain, not Weraroa as previously arranged.

Though the local seniors had a most comfortable win, their play was at times very disappointing, owing to over-eagerness on the part of most of the backs. The forwards were a hard-toiling lot, but it would greatly help if a little more .weight was put into the scrums. Pine, Huff, Andrews and Cummerfield were very prominent. The latter played well, seeing he has been off the scene for a couple of seasons.

The backs were not so prominent as when they played Shannon. Their passing could be greatly improved upon as at times it was very wild. More points would have come their way but for this. Taylor, at full, was very safe, and his line kicking was very effective. Procter played a sound game, but opportunities did not come his way. Robinson on the other wing was very safe, but his taking of tho ball needs more attention than the oncoming opponent. Westwood, at centre, played a fine game, and a couple of his runs which resulted in tries were classic, but his taking of passes at times was very patchy. Fuller played a good heady game, and his cut-ins at times gained much ground. Moses, though suffering from a touch of ‘Hu, played a line alround heady game. His taking of wild passes was a treat to watch. Hirini at half played a fair game, but appeared to be too close to the pack, and was caught too often in possession of the ball.
