LORRY DRIVER FINED.

Dannevirke, May 18,

Before Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., Leslie Albert Urquhart, of Hastings, forest ranger, was convicted of having been in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor-lorry at Dannevirke. He was lined £lO and was ordered to pay £4 expenses. His license was suspended until May 31, 1929. The accused had been given a friendly warning by a constable to get someone to take the lorry to a. garage and to stay in town for the night, but lie did not do so. Subsequently, in the middle of the r.iglit, the lorry capsized when the defendant was proceeding to his camp in the Rualiinc ranges. Suppression of the name was declined, the Magistrate remarking that it was advisable that the Forestry Department should know something of the matter.
