MOUNTED RIFLES CAMP.
“AT HOME” AND SPORTS.
On Wednesday afternoon the officers and men of the Mounted Rifles encamped on the racecourse held an “at home” to which the local and district public was extended a welcome to be present. A large number availed themselves of the opportunity of visiting the eamip and were hospitality entertained by the officers and men. A sports programme was arranged y and the various events proved very interesting. They resulted as follows:
N.C.O.’s. tug-of-war: Sergeant Majors defeated Quartermaster Sergeants, and Sergants defeated Sergeant Majors. Squadron tug-or-war: iC. squadron A (Sergeant Broome’s team) defeated Headquarters; C Squadron B defeated B. Squadron; C Squadron A defeated C. Squadron B.
Tug-of-war on horseback: Cor- . poral J. Moore’s team (Troopers Thurston, Rowe and Craig). Wrestling on horseback: Lance Corporal K. Ward’s team (Troopers V. Ward, McMahon, McLennan) defeated Sergeant Broome’s team.
Open jump (8 flights): Lance Corporal A. T. Moore (€) 1, Trooper R. McLennan (C) 2, Corporal J. L. Moore (€) 3.
Sectional jump: Corporal J. L. Moore’s section (Corporal Revell, Lance Corporal Moore and Trooper , Rust). Best Troop Horse: Corporal Bentley 1, Trooper Just 2, Sergeant Johnson 3. Rescue Race: Corporal Barber 1, Trooper Ward 2, Corporal J. L. ‘ Moore 3. 100 yards flat race: F. Ingram C Squadron 1, B. J. James Headquarters 2. 75 yards flat race: F. Ingram C Squadron 1, B. J. James Headquarters 2. Sack Race: J. W. Sheppard Headquarters 1, Sergeant R. Fraser Headquarters 2. Three-legged race: L. G. Williams anl R. C. Ferguson C. Squadron 1, J. W. Sheppard and Irwin 2. Wheelbarrow race: R. C. Ferguson and B. iClapham C Squadron 1, W. Young and D. Farmer and A. T. Blair and R. W. Downing (tie) 2. Donkey race: R. Clark and R. P. Fraser 1, R. C. Ferguson and B. Clapham 2. One mile: J. W. Sheppard Headquarters 1, C. Robertson Headquarters 2 j C. Barley B Squadron 3. ” V During the afternoon the visitors were entertained to afternoon tea on the lawn, the weather being delightfully' fine for the occasion. Several very fine trophies won by the Mounteds were on exhibition during the afternoon. Camp breaks up to-morrow, when the men will leave Foxton by special train for their various destinations.
