RUGBY CASUALTIES.
Auckland, April 29. The opening day’s play in the Auckland Rugby Union’s senior championships yesterday was remarkable for the large number of injuries sustained by players. In the principal match between Ponsonby and Grammar Old Boys, no fewer than seven players had to leave the field, and in other games at Eden Park two players 'were incapacitated. At North Shore the injured list was 1 also considerable. In the game between North Shore and Manukau there were so many stoppages that the match took over two and a quarter hours to complete. i In addition to the players cajr ried off, there were numerous stoppages in most of the games owing to minor mishaps. The heavy casualty list is attributed to the fact that the majority of players were not fit.
