PERSONAL.
The death took place at Wanganui yesterday of Mr. Alex. Strach'an, aged 82. He was a pioneer of Wanganui. Mr. B. Magee, late postmaster at Levin, who retired from the service at the end of last week, will take up their residence in "Auckland.
Among those present at the returned soldiers’ re-union held in the Masonic Hall on Thursday evening, was Constable J. Bell, of Foxton, one of the “Old Contemptibles,” who participated in the retreat from Mons.
A vote of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Major W. Hardham, V.C., at the returned ‘soldiers’ reunion held in the Masonic Hall on Thursday • evening, The late Major Hardham was the first New Zealand born soldier to win the coveted decoration, while serving in the Boer War. Major Hardham also served in the Great War with distinction and was wounded.
