Alaxwell Steele; aged 19, was attacked by a shark in the surf at Bondi, Sydney, on Saturday. He fought off the monster and swam thirty yards to shore with his left leg stripped of flesh from the ankle to the knee. There were few bathers present at the time and Steele’s condition was unnoticed for a time. When found he was rushed to the hospital where it was found that amputation of his leg was necessary. His condition is critical.
