TENNIS.
At last night’s social function, tendered to the McMurray family, occasion was taken to present to Mss Joan Thynne a trophy donated to the Tennis Club by Rev. W. H. Nicholas (vice-president), for the player showing the most progress during the past season. 'Mr Nicholas, ' in handing the trophy (a bedroom clock) to Miss Thynne, extended his congratulations, stating that bis object in giving the trophy was to endeavour to encourage the younger players' to a keen interest in the game. Mr Perreau returned thanks on behalf of Miss Thynne, and said Mr Nicholas was to be commended for the object of the trophy. Mr McMurray took occasion to express the view that the local club contained good material among its young members, which, if properly handled, would develop into superior talent. He expressly stated that there were two boys and one young lady who gave evidence of developing into players of Dominion championship standard, and he hoped opportunities would be, fostered for allowing them to develop their full latent talents.
