MANGAHAO DAMS FILLED.
BY WEEK-END ItAJNFALL
The heavy rain which commenced to fall on Saturday night and continued on Sunday, has changed the whole situation at Mangaha\
For the first time since December at the dam sites, for, while other parts of the Wellington Province have had rain in varying quantities /the Mangahao dams, which needed rain more than any other place, were left dry. For almost four months the new big dam awaited the deluge needed to fill it, for as soon as a "slight fall of rain filled the two lower dams, and the engineers were ready to close the gates of the new dam, the stream flow would diminish. The result was . that the State had to find about £B,OOO a week to raise the extra steam power needed to carry on. But now the situation is changed. On Sunday morning the two lower dams were filled, and by 4 o’clock on Sunday afternoon thjj new dam was filled for the first time. Yesterday the top dam presented a wonderful sight, being full to the brim with water backing yup for about five miles; and, with the river pouring over the tilting gates, it was apparent that for the present Mangahao could easily resume its huge load.
