BOWLING.

PRESENTATION TO MR. J. M. BARR. Members of the Foxton Bowling Club took occasion yesterday to w 7 ish Mr J. M. Barr (who, together with Mrs Barr, is leaving shortly on an extended holiday trip to the British Isles) a pleasant holiday, and present him with a handsome pipe in case as a token of their esteem and appreciation of his enthusiastic interest in the Club’s welfare.

The Mayor (Mr Perreau), in the absence of the Club president, made the presentation; and voiced the sentiments of members in respect of the high esteem in wich Mr Barr was held as a mernbes of the Club, and the efforts he had put forward in the (Club’s interests during his lengthy term as a bowler. The intrinsic value of the gift, he said, should not be considered, but rather the sentiment which accompanied it, and the speaker hoped that, when Mr Barr was playing each of the many games of bowls which he would no doubt be playing in England and Scotland, the pipe would serve as a .reminder to uphold the prestige of the bowlers of this country. He wished the recipient a very pleasant holiday.

Mr M. H. Wlalker, vice-president of the TCub, also expressed good wishes on behalf of members, and trusted Mr Barr would enjoy his tour.

Mr Barr acknowledged the gift and the kindly references of the previous speakers, and said he would endeavour* to uphold the prestige of his fellow bowlers when on tour. He sincerely hoped the Club would progress, and had a proposal to make which would possibly arouse keener interest in the game locally, and especially, he hoped, among the younger bowlers. The proposal, as subsequently outlined, was to the effect that he in■tended, while in London, securing tvvo trophies, the exact nature of which he could not at present describe, as his intention was to wait until he could secure out of the ordinary, such trophies to be competed for next season as a pairs competition, and to be won outright. The conditions governing such competition would be left in the hands of the Committee, but he handed to the Secretary a draft of suggested conditions of play, which he said the managemtnt could modify as they considered best. Mr Perreau, on behalf of the Club, thanked Mr Barr for the pro- l posed gift, and asked those present t to accord Mr Barr a hearty vote of thanks, which was carried by acclamation. Mr Walton'intimated that the approval of conditions of play for the competition would be given at the forthcoming annual meeting. Members took occasion to individually wish Mr Barr a happy time and a safe return. NYE FERNS MATCH. A further match for the Nye Ferns was played on the local green yesterday afternoon, when a rink skipped by Walker were successful in securing the trophies from the holders, Barr’s rink. Seadden, Heppner, Huntley, Barr (s) 16.
