INFLANTILE MORALITY.
NEW ZEALAND LOWEST IN THE WORLD. London, March 30. “New Zealand has the lowest infantile mortality in the world, which is not only due to climate, but to the magnificent backing the people have given the Plunket Society,” said Sir James Parr when presiding at the Overseas League’s lunch to Sir Truby King.
When replying to the toast, Sir Truby King reviewed the history of the growth of child welfare work in New Zealand, and recalled his war-time visit to Great Britain for the purpose of founding a mothercraft training centre in London where the survival rate was now equal to that of any part of New Zealand. Members of the New Zealand Plunket Society had watched the progress of the London move-/ ment, and he was gratified that he had assisted in starting in London a movement in which New Zealand people had become specialists.
