Miss‘Denton, of the local school staff, returned to duty yesterday, after a period of indisposition.

A message from Oamaru announces the death of Mr William Nicholson, the Mayor of Hampden, in his 83rd year. Mrs W. H. Guining, of Shannon, received news on Friday that her husband, who had been staying at Nelson, had had a stroke, and she immediately left for that city. Mr and Mrs W. E. and Miss Barber, of Foxton, and Mr C. Adams, of Palmerston N., returned from an enjoyable motor tour through the Auckland province yesterday. An old resident of Palmerston N., in the person of Mr David Trow, passed away on Saturday, aged 71 years. The deceased leaves a widow and a family of seven sons and one daughter to mourn their loss. Born in the reign of William the Fourth, and brought to New Zealand as a bride, in her early twenties, Mrs Wlilliam Speakman, of Parnell, Auckland, still looks out on life with healthy interest. Mrs Speakman is now in her ninetyseventh year. The Rev. S. H. D. and Mrs Peryman, are to be entertained at a farewell social , in the Methodist schoolroom this evening, by members of the, Methodist Church and friends. Mr and Mrs Peryman intend to take up their residence in Johnsonville.

The Rev. William Kelly, vicar of Wlaverley, has been appointed Vicar of Rongotea, and the Rev. Edgar William Coles, assistant px-iest of Christ Church, Wanganui, Vicar of Waverley. The Rev. Wt. Raine, Vicar of Cai'terton (and late of Foxton) has resigned his present charge for lighter work, owing ' to ill-health.

The death took place on Sunday at his home at Pukehou, Hawke’s Bay, of Mr William Temple Williams. The late Mr Williams was a son of the late Venerable Archdeacon Samuel Williams, and was widely known throughout the Hawke’s Bay district as a sheep farmer and a breeder of pedigree Jersey stock.

The death occurred at Wlanganui on Saturday moiming of Mr George G. Bullock-Douglas, editor of the “W|anganui Chronicle,” Mr Bul-loek-Douglas was born in Auckland and educated at the Wanganui Collegiate School. He saw active service in the South African war and on his return to New Zealand, joined the Wanganui “Herald” literary staff and for 21 years occupied the position of sub-editor and chief reporter. At the end of 1924 Mr Bnl-lock-Douglas resigned from the “Herald” to take up a newspaper business in Auckland, which he had bought. Later he joined the editorial staff of the “Auckland Star” and while in that position was offered and accepted the position of editor of the “Wanganui Chronicle.” He ■leaves a, widow and son to mourn their loss.
