FORGED CHEQUES.

FARMER PLEADS GUILTY,

Haw era,March 16. Drinking habits submitted as responsible for his conduct, when Harold Middleton Lee, farmer, 40, to-day pleaded guilty before Justices, and was committed for sentence on two charges of forging and uttering, also a third count of attempting to pass a valueless cheque. Accused admitted forging the name of a well-known farmer, James Winks, to three cheques for £B, £9 7s, and £3 respectively. Goods and cash were secured in full value for the latter two from different clothiers. When questioned concerning the cheque for £B, he agreed to have it submitted to the bank. Returning in the afternoon for change, he found the police awaiting to arrest him.
