MOTORISTS CAMPING AREA.
INSTALLATION OF GAS CONSIDERED BY COUNCIL,
At last night’s Borough Council meeting a letter was received from the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, requesting the Council to consider the advisability of installing a gas meter on the motorists camping area in Victoria Park instead of erecting a chimney. The Mayor said the position was that Mr. Nye had promised to erect the chimney if the Council provided bricks and motar. The work had not yet been put in hand. \ Cr. Cowley: It is no good as a business proposition. • The Mayor was of opinion that the motorists should be encouraged to use the park. Cr. Cowley said that if gas was installed some sort of shelter would be required and to carry out the scheme properly considerable were other work of more urgency were other workers of more urgency which had not yet been carried out by the Council. Cr. Thompson said he was a frequent user of the Palmerston North camping area and on that ground the Council had installed the gas in a shed and it was possible to boil a billy for Id. The idea, if. carried out locally would not pay, but he was of opinion that if not too costly it should be carried out. Local people, he said, would make use of the convenience as well as visitors. It"wa-s decided to request the gas manager to report on the matter and submit an estimate for carrying out the work.
