It is reported from Shannon tfiat great interest was taken in the selection of a rink for the Champion of Champions. Two local rinks decided to play for the honour of representing Shaftnon. A very close game resulted, E. Spencer’s rink being beaten by a small margin by Gagliardi’s rink. On Saturday Shannon: H. Butt, E. Butt, Knowles,' Gagliardi (s), met Otaki: O’Rourke, Smith, Millward, Pearse (s), at Levin. Shannon won by 20 to 12. The final elimination game between Shannon and Foxton will be played on the Levin green next Saturday. In a match for the Kinneberg Feathers on Saturday, Levin were again successful in- defending the trophies against a Foxton rink skipped by John Ross. The, singles championship of the , West Coast (South Island) > won by L. G. Mercer ‘this season. This is the second occasion on which Mercer has attained this honour. The newspapers report that this player is easily the best singles player on the West Coast at the present time. Mercer will be remembered as an erstwhile member of Foxton Club, and his old clublpates will be pleased to hear of his success. It is proposed to play a match on the local green to-morrow between the present holders of the Nye Ferns (Walton’s rink) and a “farmers’ team.”
