“CHOICEST LANDS OF THE EARTH.”
MR. AMERY’S IMPRESSIONS OF ■ DOMINIONS..,
London, March 2
“After three hundred speeches all over the Empire, I feel like a candidate on the eve of an election who does not want to make another speech,” said Mr. Leopold Amery, Secretary of State for the Dominions, at the Overseas League’s luncheon. “During an election candidates have difficulty in finding time to- snatch a meal, but on my Empire tour my chief difficulty was to find time when I was not expected to eat, such was the exuberance and abundance of Dominion hospitality everywhere. As I came here a London drizzle made me wish I was back in the Dominion cities where the sun shipes brightly. ' 1
“Virile members of our race are building up young nations in the choicest lands of the earth,” continued Mr. Amery. “In each there is room for still greater numbers of our stock.” For ten minutes Mr. Amery sketched his tour in descriptive language that carried his audience round the Empire like a panorama, concluding: “Through all this wonderful diversity and richness of national life, each of which is only a part of a wider whole, runs the thread of a common kinship, aspirations, habits, beliefs, and associations. There has not been a single day or hour where I did not seem to be at home, welcomed as a friend, fellow-citizen, and fellow-worker. On returning to England again the strongest impression that remains is that I am a member of our glorious, worldwide home.”
