FAILURE TO ENROL AS ELECTOR.
SMALL FINE INFLICTED. Auckland, March 2. “I think this is the first time I have had to inflict a penalty for an offence of this kind,” remarked Mr. W. R, McKean, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, when William James Dihvorth admitted failing to enrol as an elector of the Roskili electorate in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act. The prosecution Avas brought by the Registrar of Electors, it being stated in the information that defendant had neglected to enrol for a month after he Avas bound to do so by reason of his residential qualification. Defendant said he fully intended to enrol, although he had Avaited to do so until he had taken up permanent residence. He Avas hoav living in Mount Eden, and he intended shortly to remove to Parnell electorate. The Magistrate said lie would he bound to convict, since defendant had pleaded guilty. The case would probably serve as a warning to others. In the circumstances defendant Vould be fined 2/0, with
