DEATH OF MOTOR CYCLIST.

CAR DRIVER EXONERATED. Palmerston N., Feb. 29. An inquiry was held in Palmerston North this morning, before the Coroner, Mr A. J. Graham, J.P., as to the circumstances surrounding the death of Thomas Hooper Smith, who died in the Palmerston North Hospital as the result of injuries received in a collision between the. motor bicycle he was riding and a motor car driven by H. Stern, a farmer, of Ashhurst. After hearing evidence, the Coroner returned a verdict that deceased died as a result of injuries such as described in the medical evidence. There was no suggestion, he said, that Stern had been in any way to blame for the accident, and it, seemed clear that if deceased had kept to the correct side of the road the fatality would not have occurred. No doubt the belt of trees was a menace to the traffic, and this matter should be remedied.
