CONTINUOUS TELEPHONE SERVICE.
SOON TO BE AN ACCOMPLISHED
FACT. At last night’s monthly meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, Mr. R. N. Speirs, as chairman of a special committee set up to attend to the matter of obtaining a continuous telephone service for Foxton, reported that the necessary number of signatures of subscribers had now been obtained. The committee, he said, had been well received and everyone called on had signed up. There were not twelve subscribers on the exchange list who had uot signed up. The Postmaster (Mr J. Newton) now had the papers and thanks were due to him for his asisstance.
Mr G. Smith thanked Mr Speirs for his activities in connection with the matter. At his own expense, Mr Speirs had pi'ovided locomotion for the committee which had canvassed the borough with very gratifying results. The sub-committee was accorded a vote of thanks. The President (Mr J. K. Hornblow) said that he felt sure the continuous telephone would be a great asset to Foxton. He was of opinion, however, that it was time the Government reduced the tele - ■phone charges, judging by the figures recently published in connection with the Post and Telegraph Department. The Postmaster was handed the lists and asked to do his best to have the continuous telephone service inaugurated without delay.
