FOXTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MONTHLY MEETING.
. The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce was held in the Town Hall Supper-room last evening, presided over by the President (Mr. Hornblow).. Also present were Messrs G. Smith, D. Barron, J. Newton, H. Osborne, M, Perreau, D. Christie, R. N. Speirs, J. Thomson, J. Moir, R. McMurray, ,J. Ross, F. Yeo, I. Corn, and the secretary (Mr R. Hornblow). An apology for absence was received from Mr. A. Alsop.
CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows: From the Chief Postmaster, stating that the mail service had been altered in accordance with. the Chamber’s request.
The President said the Chamber was now quite satisfied with the arrangements and the letter was received.
From the Town Clerk, stating that the Council intended to make provision in next year’s estimates for public conveniences as suggested by the Chamber. —Received. From the Wellington Automobile Association, stating that the Executive was prepared to erect notice boards directing motor traffic to the camping area as suggested by the Chamber, if a plan was provided.— Plan to be provided by the Mayor. From the Levin-Wlaiopehu Club, extending a welcome to members to be present at the official opening of the Mt. Waiopehu Hut by Mr W. H. Field, M.P., at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 4th. —Received with thanks. From the Public Works Departmest re Manawatu County roads. — Received. MUNICIPAL PICTURES. The merger of the Town Hall and Royal Theatre was discussed, and it was unanimously decided to endorse the Borough Council’s action in the matter. VALEDICTORY. The President stated that Mr. A. Alsop, a Chamber member, would be leaving New Zealand for England on the 16th of next month. It was decided to farewell Mr A. Alsop prior to his departure. GENERAL. It was decided to request the Borough Council to instal a gas meter on the camping area in Victoria Park instead of erecting a chimney there. '
The President complimented Mill. Osborne on his enterprise in procuring a scow to work the port of Foxton, and wished him every success in his venture.
The Mayor (Mr Perreau) on behalf of the people of Foxton, endorsed the President’s remarks and said that the move was one which would prove of great assistance to the port. Mi 1 . Osborne returned thanks.
