MISSING FOXTON.
DIVERTING MOTOR TRAFFIC. At last night’s meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce the question of through traffic missing Foxton proper by passing through the borough via Johnston Street, and thereby eliminating the maiq thoroughfare, was given considerable discussion. Members considered that if traffic were directed through town tradespeople would benefuJPj a result. Mr Moil- suggested making a check of traffic passing through the borough by the by-road. v A member considered sixty per cent, of the through traffic was diverted from the business quarter Mr Perreau said the local busi-ness-people were prepared to assist with tar sealing the leads at both ends of the town to direct the traffic into the main thoroughfare. He suggested the tar sealing of the roads for a chain or so past each corner. The President (Mr J. K. Hornblow) suggested that an arrangement be made with the Main Highways Board to do the work under ' the. new allocation to boroughs of under 6,000 population, j Mr Christie suggested the formation of a new road at the north end of the town following the swepp round of the railway line, which would lead into the centre of the town. It was decided to request the Borough Council to give favourable consideration to the tar-sealing of a chain of the north entrance .to Foxton.
