MANAWATU COUNTY.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The ManaAvatu 'County Council met at Sanson on Tuesday, Councillor W. E. Barber (chairman) presiding. There Avere also present Councillors J. M'Kelvie, J. Boyce, D. W. Reid, and D. Pearce. correspondence. From the Treasury advising that the Council’s proposed loan of £5500 for the approaches to the Shannon bridge had been approved. From the Kairanga County Council forAvarding £62/10/8, being Council’s share of heavy traffic license fees. From Rangiotu settlers calling attention to the state of Pykes’ road and suggesting that it be metalled. —Left to Councillors Barber and Boyce to discuss the matter with the settlers. From the Tangimoaha Improvement Society requesting the Council to utilize any surplus from the Government road grant toAvard making a road through to subsidise the work from voluntary subscriptions. —The matter Avas left in the hands of Councillors M'Kelvie and Hunt and the clerk Avith poAver to act.
From /the Oroua Doavus Dairy Company suggesting that while the Council compels settlers to remove gorse fronting their-sections, it nlloAved strangers to cut cocksfoot whereas the privilege of collecting grass seed should be granted the settler who had to remove the gorse. It Avas decided to advise the Company that the grass seed cutting rights were sold and not given a- ° A . way. From D. C. CoAvdrey on behalf of the Sandy road settlers, recommending that a special loan of £IOOO be raised to form and metal the road, the loan to be subject to a, Government subsidy. —The matter Avns referred to the Couscillor for the riding for a report. From W. Renton on behalf of the the main drain at Mangawhata and H. Barber Est., calling attention to requestisg that it be banked up to prevent overfloAving during the winter months—Left to Councillors Barber anl Boyce to report. TREASURER’S REPORT.
The treasurer reported on the county finances as folloAvs: County fund account debit £7937/5/10, main higlnvays loan account credit £773/2/6, imprest account cre'dit £75, loan aceoiint credit. £l4lO/4/1. The folloAving amounts are available for expenditure in the different riding accounts: Sandon £135 5/10, Mount SteAvart £2ll/7/6, Waitohi £143/7/9, Rongotea £4O 15/11, Carnarvon £lO5 19/1, Awahou £l4/2/6. The Kawaka-Ava. Riding has over expended its account by” £lB/19/-’.
