The death occurred on Tuesday at Woodville-of Mrs. Sarah Sower - by, aged 77 years, and on Thursday of Henry Sowerby, her husband, aged 93 years. They had been resident there for about 30 years.

In granting leave of absence to Cr. J. H. Perrett at Tuesday’s meeting of the ManaAvatu County Council, it Avas reported that he was making a good recovery from his illness.

After 37 years’ service in the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr B. Magee, Postmaster at Levin, is retiring on superannuation. He will relinquish duty just after Easter, going on four months’ leave. Mr. and Mrs. Magee have decided to settle in Auckland and Avill take up their residence there upon leaving Levin.

At Tuesday’s meeting of the ManaAvatu County Council, feeling references Avere made 1 to the late county engineer, Mi' George Hiekford, by Councillors and the Clerk, and the following resolution Avas passed : “That the council places on record its deep sense of loss at the regrettable death of its late engineer, Mr George Hiekford, who had served the council faithfully and zealously for a period of 30 years, and the council expresses its heartfelt sympathy with Mrs Hiekford and her family in their great sorrow.”
