SCOW PURCHASED FOR FOX-TON-WELLINGTON SERVICE.

Mr. H. Osborne, the well-known local carrier and forwarding agent, has purchased the auxiliary scow “The Portland” for the FoxtonW’ellington trade. “The Portland was built in Auckland for the Auckland Cement Company and can carry a cargo of 90 tons . dead weight, and draws sft. She,is driven byl two 60 h.p. engines, burning crude oil and is equipped with electric light and all modern conveniences. The vessel will ply regularly between. Foxton and Wellington. “The Portland” will make her hrs visit to Foxton,on Tuesday with n cai'O'O of sugar from Auckland. Mr. Osborne is to be congratulated upon his enterprise and it is hoped that the venture will be piofitable to all concerned. # A full description of the scow will appear in our next issue.
