VERACITY OF WITNESSES.
At the local S.M. Court 'last 'Friday a witness in the rabbit case under cross examination by opposing counsel" remarked that it would not be difficult for defendant to obtain witnesses who would swear that his property was clean of rabbits.
Counsel: Do you mean to say that defendant can get witnesses who, are prepared to go into the box and commit perjury? Witness: Well, hardly that. Counsel: If they swear that the property is clean and it is not,so that would be committing perjury.
Witness: In the strict letter of the law I suppose it would.
The S.M.: Well you certainly get it in motor cases! Continuing, he said, that it was hard to understand in such cases how different parties would get into the witness box and each give very divergent accounts ,o£ what actually happened.
