LOAN OF A PEARIFLE.

OWNER FINED 10/-

At the local S.M. Court yesterday, before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., T. W. Hunt was charged with loaning a pearifle on 4th December, to a Jad under 16 years of age.

Constable Owen said defendant had lent the rifle to the boy to shoot birds and complaints about the use of the gun had been made. Defendant said that he had used the gun personally to prevent birds from eating his strawberries. The boy was an excellent shot and witness had loaned the rifle to him to shoot birds on his property. He, in turn, had evidently loaned it to another lad and complaints had been made.

The S.M.: You are not allowed to lend a gun to anyone even on your own property. You will be fined 10/- with costs 10/-. Defendant: That puts the lid on the strawberries!

The S.M.: If you put wire nettin" on it would be better, (laugh- , ? 1 ter).
