PURDY FIGHTS A DRAW,
Sydney, January 29
At the Stadium,. Charlie Purdy, 9.7 A, fought a fifteen rounds’ draw with Ernie Izard, the English lightweight, 9.72. The contest was exciting, both men scoring well. The Englishman was a shade ahead up to the fifth round. The New Zealander then concentrated his attack on the body and forced the fight. Izard, however, proved superior at in-fighting, but when fighting at long range Purdy easily equalised matters, and at the end of the bout the referee was unablp to separate the merr, and declared the contest a draw. The decision was questioned by a large section of the crowd, who thought that Purdy was entitled to a win.
Izard is one of the best English lightweights.
