BEACH SPORTS.

Another large number of people (young and old), witnessed the childrens’ sports, conducted by Mr A. Steer, at the Manawatu Heads on Saturday night. The various events were keenly contested and great interest was taken by the spectators. The following are the prize winner's : Flat race: girls under 5 years, Mary Grant 1; flat race: boys under 5 years, Billie Muir 1; girls egg and spoon race: Thelma Barnett 1, Greta Jesphersen 2, Winnie Ber'sett 3; boys three-legged race: Gardner Bros. 1, Jim Cheetham and Harry Tinklater 2; flat race: girls under 15, Hazel Bennett 1, Betty Muir 2; dance, charleston, girjs, juniors: Mona Boyle 1, Nancy Muir 2, Betty Muir 3; charleston, senior girls: Olive Matanatea 1, Dorothy Armstrong 2. The sports concluded by three Maori boys giving an exhibition Maori haka.

Last evening Mr. Steer organised a short sports programme which resulted as follows:

Boys bun-eating competition: H. Gardner 1, M. Gardner 2, R. Cresswell 3; girls skipping competition, under 10 years: Joyce- Bennett 1, Mona Withers 2; boys wheelbarrow race: H. Gardner and N. M. Gardner and G. Bell 2; Manawatu Heads Girls’ Handicap, 100 yards, 15 and under: H. Bennett 1, Joan Pickering 2, N. Steer 3. A bathers’ beauty parade was also held and caused a good deal of interest. There were five entrants. The prizes were awarded as follows:—Miss R. Collier 1, Miss Joan Pickering 2. A large number of people left the Beach yesterday oiving to the schools re-opening on Wednesday.
