ACCESS TO BEACH.
NEED FOR ROAD IMPROVEMENT.
The bad road access to the local seaside was again before the Foxton Chamber of Commerce at its monthly meeting, held on Thursday night.
A reply w r as received to the Chamber’s letter/Asking that Foxton Harbour Board go into the question of improving ithe Sandtorium road, stating that the matter was now receiving attention by that body and a reply was also received from All’. J. Linklater, ALP., to whom the Chamber had written, asking him to make application to the Government for a grant towards Beach roading, stating that he would be pleased to co : operate with the chamber and intended to make application to the Public Works Department for a grant of £IOOO for that purpose. The President (Mr. J. K. Hornblow) expressed the hope that Mr. Linklater’s efforts would bear fruit. Unfortunately dual control operated over Beach sections. The land v T as a Harbopr Board endowment, and rates were levied by the Alan awatu County Council. The residents were also loaded w r ith a charge of 12/6 per annum for roading purposes, besides having to pay the usual rates to the iCouncil and rent to the Harbour Board. The matter, however, could be safely left in the hands of Mr. Linklater, as he felt sure that the member would do bis utmost to have the Beach road declared a secondary highway and to complete the sanatorium road.
