BEACH NOTES.
Quite a number of people are still in residence at the local seaside, most of the accommodation being fully booked up. The, shortage of water is being keenly felt and the artesian bore put down by the Harbour Board is proving a great boon. Mr. A. Steer has taken a keen interest in the social side of the beach life this season, and has organised a series of children’s sports ,on the sand, which have been held -almost nightly. A large ■number of people have witnessed the events, some even journeying from Foxton to watch the young athletes in action. Last night some 350 spectators were in attendance. The next evening sports meeting will be held on Monday evening, weather permitting, when a novelty item in the form of a bathers’ beauty parade will be included in the programme. The first prize will be one guinea. Entrants must appear in bathing costumes'; The sports commence at 7.30 o’clock on the sand outside Mr. Steer’s shop.
