CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor). Sir, —In your report of the Foxton Racing Club’s meeting you state that the falling-off in the totalisator receipts were in keeping with other meetings in the Dominion. But sir, the “falling-off” in the totalisator investments are due more to the illegal operations of the “bookies” than to slump conditions. If the money invested with bookmakers had gone through the totalisator the club would have nothing to complain of. The local club, and in fact all clubs, depend largely upon the totalisator to provide the sport, public conveniences and maintenance and not to fatten the bookmaker. It is commonly reported sir, that the “wool, brokers” do a fair business in Foxton and if that is true it is time the police got a “move on.” Yours, etc., SPORT.
