SPECIAL MEETING,

A special meeting of the Fox-ton Fire Board was held last evening and to confer with the brigade. There were present Messrs Cray (chairman), J. K. Homblow, M. E. Perreau, E. Parkin, Clerke, and tlje secretary (Mr. R. Rangiheuea). There was a good muster of brigadesmen, under Deputy-'Superin-tcndent Lockwood.'

The subjects discussed were ’honorary members, privileges, and equipment. At the conclusion of the confer-, ence, the chairman thanked the brigade for their loyal services and enthusiasm and stated that the Board would favourably consider all matters which would conduce to the welfare of the men both front a fire-fighting and social point of view. He specially thanked De-puty-Superintendent Lockwood for filling the breach as superintendent, and hoped that the good feeling which existed between the men and Board would always continue, as each was actuated by the same high motives. The Board specially desired to thank Brigade Secretary Walls, for his enthusiastic work on behalf of the brigade. The Board felt that under their new superintendent the brigade would maintain its present efficiency and that tire brigadesmen would be more than satisfied' with the. selection made. The chairman then greeted eaeli member and extended his thanks and compliments to them. Subsequently the Board met and appointed Mr. A. Stevenson superintendent.

Mr. Stevenson, who was present, said that lie would be prepared to take the position temporarily for three months and at the expiry of that period would ejpsider holding the position permanently. He said while lie had done pwetical work at fires and was alwaw willing to assist, he did not posSss the training in brigade work csswtial to the position.
