ANIMADVERSION AT COUNCIL. MEETING.
OR. SPRING MAKES A COMPLAINT. NAUGHTY CHILDREN AT ‘THE PICTURES. -' v I During a discussion on the advisability or otherwise of the erection of a sign-board at last night’s Borough -Council meeting. Or. Spring caused a diversion by lodging a complaint against the management of the Town Hall pictures. Warming up to the charge, CrA Spring said “On New Year’s Eve I went to the pictures and while seated there something was thrown at my head, once, again, and a third time. You wouldn’t like it. I was insulted and that’s enough for me.” Cr.. Cowley said that it was not the Foxton children who had insulted Cr. Spidng. He thought that some of the 300 visiting children were responsible for the bad conduct. Cr. Spring: No it wasn’t. It was the Foxton, children. , A Councillor: How do you know? Cl’. Spring: I was insulted that’s all I know. It would be an easy thing to keep order if the caretaker attended to his business. The Mayor informed- Cr. Spring that, as a Councillor,- it was his duty to help keep order at the Town Hall. Cr. Spring: A man is paid to do that. He considered the hall was badly managed and concluded by saying two wrongs didn’t make a right.
One Councillor asked that Cr. Spring be called to order. The business before the meeting was the discussion as to whether permission should be granted an applicant to erect a sign-board on the Council’s domain and no mention had been made of the Town Hall whatever. Another Councillor informed the meeting that Cr. Spring had suggested that children should be charged full price for admission tat the .pictrres. The Mayor: Are you prepared to move in that direction, Cr. Spring? 'Cr. Spring: No. I don’t want any, motion. Tell the caretaker to/ keep better order in future. The Mayor said that the Council was to be congratulated on the splendid manner in which the hall was managed. Both Mr Trueman and Mr Reid, and all connected with the running of the pictures, gave every satisfaction and there was no cause for complaint whatever. The
public had showed their approval by well patronising the hall. The matter was then dropped and Councillors returned their attention to the matter before the meeting.
