VISIT TO DOMINION. MR, AMERY’S MESSAGE. The Prime Minister (Mr. Coates) has received the following radio message from Mr. Amery, Secretary of State for the Dominions, who is a passenger by the Aorangi, now on her voyage from Auckland to Fiji: —
“I cannot leave New Zealand without expressing to you and to your colleagues our warmest thanks •• for all your generous and kind hospitality to myself and Mrs. Amery j and to my staff. Our stay in the Dominion has been a time of great enjoyment and happiness, and I know also that it will be of the greatest value to me in my future work. Our best wishes to you and to the Dominion for the coming year. —Amery.” PRIME MINISTER’S ‘REPLY. The Prime Minister replied to Mr, Amery’s message to-day as fol- » lows: — / “My colleagues and I warmly appreciate your telegram. "VVe are lighted to know that Mrs. Amery and yourself and the members of your staff, have spent a happy enjoyable time during your visit to this Britain of the South. We feel s confident that your Empire tour will be productive of real value in promoting the spirit of unity and cooperation among its peoples. New Zealand cordially reciprocates your good wishes, and earnestly trusts that the New Year -will bring peace and prosperity not only to the Homeland, but to our Commonwealth as a whole. May I assure you how greatly I have appreciated the privilege of our further personal conference which your visit has afforded. Kia Ora! —J. G. Coates.” The sneak thief has made his presence felt in the town of late. Potato crops have been raided and poultry stolen. A watch is being kepi in certain quarters to capture the nocturnal marauders who may be dealt with peremptorily or as the law dictates.
