LORRY GOES OVER A BANK
BOY FATALLY INJURED

As the result of a tie-pin becoming detached from the steering rod, a lorry carrying a picnic party of parents and children totalling 28 went over a bank near Awakino on Sunday morning and fell 40 feet. As a result of injuries Max Bredenbeck, the son of F. Bredenbeck, the driver and owner of the lorry, died in the hospital this morning. .. Gordon Weir, aged eight, residing at Arapae is in the hospital with injured ribs and shock. Others also received minor injuries. The lorry escaped being hurled into the Awakino River through being caught on a protruding bank.
