Mrs. E. Baker, of Union Street, arrived hack in Foxton on Saturday, after spending several months'* holiday in Auckland. Mr. W. F. Hornig, of Wellington, lias been appointed manager of the New Zealand Rugby team to tour South Africa in 1928. At Saturday’s meeting of the Horowhenua county council the resignation was received of Mr. W. N. Anderson, the county engineer, the reason being his continued illhealth. The chairman, Cr. Monk, moved and Cr. Barber seconded that in view of the circumstances mentioned in his communication the council accepts with regret Mr. Anderson’s resignation and that, in consideration of the state of his health, he be relieved of all duties from the date of the resolution until the termination of his engagement. The motion was carried unanimously, and it was decided to invite applications for the position at once. The assistant-engineer, Mr. R. Callander, was appointed actingengineer till a permanent appointment is made.
