HEMP MARKET.

NOVEMBER GRADING RETURNS

The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow, and stripper slips for the month of November have been issued by the Department of •Agriculture as follows:

Eleven bales at Picton were graded fine. Twenty-nine at Auckland, 35 at Wellington, 94 at Foxton, and 2 at Bluff were rejected. The number of bales in each grade were as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parentheses:— Fine 11 (78), good fair 324 (630), high fair 2,560 (3,463), low fair 4,546 ( 2,558), common 1,619 (902), rejected .160 (221), condemned nil (6), a total of 9,220 bales, as against 7,858 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 1,362 bales. 'The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 2,288, Wellington 2,609, Foxton 2,056, Wairoa 266j~ Picton 73, Blenheim 39, Pt. Chalmers 156, Bluff 1,657* Lyttelton 76. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow: —

Forty-six bales at Auckland, 3 at Wellington, 12 at Foxton, 11 at Pt. Chalmers, 4 at Bluff, and 1 at Lyttelton were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parentheses: —_ Ist grade 312 (212), 2nd grade 1,417 (1,554), 3rd grade 747 (430), condemned 77 (89), a total of 2,533 bales, as against 2,285 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 268 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 660, Wellington 513, Foxton 530, Wairoa 112, Picton 28, Blenheim 29, Port Chalmers 29, Bluff 635, Lyttelton 17. v St ripper-tow: —Thirty-six bales at Wellington were graded 2nd grade, a total number of 36 bales as against 254 bales graded the same period last year, showing a decrease of 218 bales. Stripper-slips: —Twenty bales at Auckland, 14 at Foxton and eight at the Bluff were graded 2nd grade. Six at the Bluff were condemned. Two at Auckland and 141 at the Bluff were passed for export. The total number graded was 191 bales, as against 186 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of five bales. •
