NARROW ESCAPE FROM DROWNING.
Taumarunui, November 12. v Mr. D. Pollock, of Kakahi, who is employed at a local store, had a narrow escape from drowning, and he owes his life to the action of Mr. M. Williams. While Mr. Pollock was taking stores to Te Rena, his cart capsized in mid-stream. He was thrown from the cart into the flooded river, and the horse and the vehicle were quickly washed down stream. Mr. Williams, who was standing on the bank, rushed down the side and waded into the river up to his neck, and rescued Mr. Pollock, who was unable to swim on account of the heavy coat which he was wearing. The horse and cart were found half a mile further down. The horse , was released in an exhausted condition, but did not sustain any serious injury.
