UNITED SPORTS ASSOCIATION.

COMMITTEE MEETING. A. Committee meeting of the above was held in the Racing Club office on Tuesday evening presided over by Mr. W. T. Jewell (President). Also present were: Messrs R. Bryant, C. Pearson, D. Ogilvy, E. Parkin, J. Newton, D. (Christie, S. Austin, J. Thomson, W!. E. Barber, W. Ross, W. Jewell, P. J. Jack, D. R. Barron, G. F. Smith, R. Warwick, and the secretary (R. McMurray). . Correspondence was received from Messrs Rogers and Hall (Wellington), congratulating s the club on the success of its recent meeting and from the N.Z. Olympic Association, asking for assistance to promote Olympic ideals in the Dominion and to forward names of prominent athletes. The communication also stated that a sum of £7OOO was required to send Dominion representatives to the Amsterdam Olympic. —The president said the ideals of the association were worthy of support, but the question of financial assistance would have to be deferred. The secretary submitted a statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the recent meeting, which disclosed receipts £349 Is Gd and expenditure £271 9s Od. Accounts totalling £6B odd were passed for payment. The president staled that the statement disclosed a satisfactory position, but the Association would need to exercise caution in regard to expendture and .it would be necessary to build up a reserve ' to guard against unfavourable weather conditions at future meetings. Mr. Austin concurred in this view. A donation of £lO was voted to the Foxton Silver Band, and eulogistic references were made to the programme submitted. It was pointed out that the Band had been assisted by a number of bandsmen from Levin. 'Special mention was made of the services of Mr. Simpson (caretaker), and it was decided to make him a donation of £5. Mr. J. Newton presented a statement in connection with the dance which netted the sum of £3 17/6. A vote of thanks was accorded Messrs Newton and Woods in this connection. The services of Mr. J. Martin, first aid officer, were referred to in complimentary . terms and it was decided to provide him with an assistant at future meetings. . The secretary reported that he had forwarded messages of sympathy to Messrs Lowe and O'Brien, who met with serious accidents while competing at the meeting. The secretary’s action was endorsed and the hope expressed that the injured riders would soon recover from their injuries. The president said that provision would have to be made at future meetings for a more suitable .strucj ture for judges and time-keepers. A moveable structure could be provided at little cost. Mr. Austin also referred to the necessity for improved methods re closing of acceptances and suggested a. clock dial.—lt was decided to hold these matters over for discussion at a later meeting. ■ A discussion took place re preventing the public from crowding on to the course and it was decided to prevent this at future meetings ‘and to instruct gate keepers to be more vigilant.
