REVIEWING OLD ACQUAINTANCES.

OLD BOYS VISIT FOXTON. “I arrived in Foxton as a child of six years of age with my mother in 1873,” said Mi’. Rockstrow, at a Masonic social function in the'Town Hall supper-room on Saturday evening. “My father (the late Dr. Rockstrow), had arrived in the dis*trict some time prior to that. He was employed by the Government as medical officer to the Maoris in the district extending from Paekakariki to Turakina.” Mi’. Roekstrow went on to say that the family’s first residence was a cottage in the Lady’s Mile —he believed the building was still in existence. Mr. Rockstrow then related some of his early experiences. Another speaker was Mr. Futter, who was born and educated in Foxton. His schoolmaster was the late Mr. Hulke. Mr. Futter’s father in those days was “mine host” of the Manawatu Hotel. He related how on one occasion his late father won a wager by racing the mail coach in a buggy and pair from Wellington to Foxton, arriving in Foxton several hours ahead of the mail. Speaking of shipping to the £ort in those days, he stated that the “Jane Douglas” went as far up the river as Paiaka -with cargo. The reminiscences of the “old ■boys” were much appreciated by those present.
