ATTEMPTED BURGLARY.
NIGHT WATCHMAN’S TIMELY ARRIVAL.
During the early hours of this morning an attempt was made to break into the C. M. Ross Co.’s permises but the intruders were interrupted in their endeavours by the nightwatehman (Mr. J. Wyeth). Mr. Wyeth informed our representative that at about 2 a.m. he was proceeding along Main Street from the. Post Office and when nearing the C. M. Ross Co.’s premises lie heard a whistle and saw two men make oft' down the street, turning down Clyde Street, and disappearing in the direction of the railway station. On investigating from whence the men dame Mr. Wyeth noticed that a glass panel of the door had been marked evidently with a diamond or glass-cutter for the purpose of removing the glass and turning the key inside the door, which would give entrance to the building. The matter was reported to the police, who are investigating. Last Saturday night a local dwelling was entered and a few shillings stolen during the absence of the occupants at the' pictures.
