MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Manawatu County Council met at Sanson yesterday, Cr. W. E. Barber (Chairman) presiding. There were also present Crs. J. LI. Perrett, D. W. Reid, W. Bearee, 11. H. Hunt, J. MeKelvie, and J. Boyce. AWAIIOU RIDING. The engineer reported as follows on the Awaliou Riding:—EoxtonShahnon Rd. This road is very costly to maintain owing to the haulage of flax over the road by tractors. The state of the road is keeping a three-ton lorry employed carting metal and' blinding, and at the present time it is not in good order. The grader has been employed trimming up the above road and also No. 6 Line and Whirokino roads. The depth pegs have not yet been marked off, but we hope to have the work completed during the present month. Stone Crusher: —The crushing plant is being kept working almost continuously and last month 1,400 c.yds. of crushed metal was sup-, plied to the sidings and dumps along ithe tram line. The question of handling metal at the various dumps along the tram line is under consideration.

Himitangi-Foxton Main Highway: Messrs Coley Bros, have completed about one mile of sand banking a-' long the Himatangi-Foxton Main Highway, and it will be necessary to turf the sand batters on cuttings and bankings. TRAMWAY MANAGER’S REPORT The tramway manager reported as follows: The chief items of traffic for the month of September were grain 23i tons; minerals, 128 tons; manure, 168 tons; merchandise, 54 tons; sheep and pigs, 9 trucks; posts, 4 trucks; metal, 245 trucks; eggs, 121 crates; timber, 13,484 sup. ft.; fares, £1 9/6. The accounts show a credit balance of £SO 7/3 for the month’s working. —Received. RATE ROLL ALTERATIONS. The following alterations were made in the county rate roll: Wm. Darragli to E. A. Duker, sec. 168, Rongotea township; Thos. Witton Est. to R. J. and M, J. Witton, lot 17. pt. sees. 310, 311, Carnarvon; H. 11. Andrew to E. A. Williamson, lots 242-3 and 237, Sandon; S. D. Stringer to G.„H. Mallett, section 42 township of Tangiinoana; L. Poupard to G. 0. Barber, lots 45, 47, 49, and pt. 15, sec. 555, Foxton; C., J. Cockburn to E. Yanko, lot 29, sec. 315, Carnarvon; E. Yanko to F. Yanko, lot 29, see. 315, Carnarvon; J. Yanko to F. Yanko, lots 3031, sec. 315, Carnarvon; R. H. Parker to A. B. Baker, pt. sec. 153 and •lot 2 pt. sec. 87, Sandon; C. Gould to K. C. Hunt, sec. 214, Carnarvon.

GENERAL.

It was decided to support the Feilding Borough Council in its endeavour to get the Main Trunk Limited expresses to stop at Feilding. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mi’ H. G. Hammond, an ex-Councillor, was passed. “I am not going to alter my clock or scratch away in the early hours of the morning for all the Sideys in New Zealand/’ said Cr. Boyce, when asking if the Council intended to conform with the Daylight Saving legislation' The Council resolved to alter the hours of committee meetings but not that of the ordinary Council meetings.
